HEAD COACH UPDATE | September 2013
The Kentucky Fire Juniors (FKJ) Coaching Staff did a great job during the 2012-13 season in helping to establish and elevate a common style of play for all KFJ players/teams. We continue to promote coaching education to stay current with the game as it evolves. Developing players to play at a higher level is an important part of our mission!
Kentucky Fire Juniors (KFJ) players recently returned from Lake Forest Academy located in Lake Forest, Illinois, where they took part in the 2013 Chicago Fire Juniors Identification camp. In total, there were 23 players from our KFJ girls program that participated in this Elite Identification camp.
The Kentucky Fire Juniors 98 Girls Premier Team has emerged victorous in each of their three group games at the 2013 Region II Championships, and have advanced to the Semi-Final round on Tuesday, June 25th!
The Kentucky Fire Juniors participated in the Charleston Battery Cup February 15-17, 2013 with a team consisting of our KFJ u13 Premier team, in addition to our KFJ u12 and u11 Premier boys teams for this trip. It was a great weekend of soccer where our KFJ players were, at times, very competitive and at times out- matched. In the end it was a wonderful experience and a great weekend filled with top level soccer in each age group.
The Region II Girl’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) is led by Kentucky Fire Junior’s (KFJ) Technical Director/Head Coach Mike Dickey. Mike is the Head Coach for the Regional ODP program and recently returned from the event in Boca Raton, Florida with the Regional ODP Programs over the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday: November 27th - December 1st.
As part of our ongoing mission at Kentucky Fire Juniors, we intend to provide an unparalleled soccer experience for our membership. This includes our commitment to preparing our high school age players and their parents/guardians with the tools necessary to pursue a college education, regardless of their intent to continue their on-field playing careers into the next phase of their lives. This is why the KFJ staff is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, November 20th, we will be hosting our first ever KFJ College Preparation Writing Workshop. This event is specifically designed to allow the KFJ sophomore, junior and senior boys and girls the ability to learn skills that will make them more marketable as they prepare for and begin the process of completing college applications, applying for scholarships, and completing their own resumes.
The Kentucky Fire Juniors (FKJ) family would like to congratulate two of our own, Dale Helfrich (Trinity HS / KFJ '98 Boys & '99 Boys) and Jaclyn Puntillo (Sacred Heart Academy / KFJ 99's Girls), for leading their respective teams to the KHSAA State Championship games this Fall, 2013. Both Helfrich and Puntillo were in their first season as high school varsity head coaches this past Fall Season.
