HEAD COACH UPDATE | September 2013
The Kentucky Fire Juniors (FKJ) Coaching Staff did a great job during the 2012-13 season in helping to establish and elevate a common style of play for all KFJ players/teams. We continue to promote coaching education to stay current with the game as it evolves. Developing players to play at a higher level is an important part of our mission!
Kentucky Fire Juniors (KFJ) players recently returned from Lake Forest Academy located in Lake Forest, Illinois, where they took part in the 2013 Chicago Fire Juniors Identification camp. In total, there were 23 players from our KFJ girls program that participated in this Elite Identification camp.
The Kentucky Fire Juniors 98 Girls Premier Team has emerged victorous in each of their three group games at the 2013 Region II Championships, and have advanced to the Semi-Final round on Tuesday, June 25th!
The Kentucky Fire Juniors participated in the Charleston Battery Cup February 15-17, 2013 with a team consisting of our KFJ u13 Premier team, in addition to our KFJ u12 and u11 Premier boys teams for this trip. It was a great weekend of soccer where our KFJ players were, at times, very competitive and at times out- matched. In the end it was a wonderful experience and a great weekend filled with top level soccer in each age group.
The KFJ Premier Girls '00 represented our club well at the Scott Gallagher Tournament in St. Louis. After a tie in their first match, they came back strong in their bracket to move on to the Semis.
Girls U14 Premier:
The Kentucky Fire Juniors (KFJ) u14 Girls Premier team competed in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Youth League Platform this past weekend, November 9th-10th, in Columbus, Ohio. MLS affiliate teams from both the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew were in attendance. The Kentucky Fire Juniors sent two teams to compete in this historic event. The Girls Premier team won both games with 2-0 score-lines. They defeated the Columbus Crew and the Generation Red Chicago Fire team.
The best takeaway from this MLS event is that both clubs put a heavy emphasis on player development for all youth players. The coaching that took place on every team was about teaching the players to play a style which will help them become better players when they are older and either help them become quality college soccer players, and/or good young professionals. This was a unique opportunity and our KFJ players + families took a lot away from this competition because they were exposed to how Major League Soccer would like to develop our youth. We look forward to the next MLS event and having more of our teams participate.
- Mike Dickey - Head Coach/Technical Director
Boys U13 Premier:
The Kentucky Fire Juniors U13 Premier Red boys played this past weekend in the Columbus Crew's showcase event. U13PRB had the opportunity to play against the Chicago Fire Generation 13 team as well as the Fire's 01 and 02 Academy teams. KFJ was able to pull in 5 players from the Classic Red U13 team for the event. KFJ players represented themselves well coming from behind for a 2-1 victory over the Generation 13's. The Academy 01's showed their quality and class in a 3-1 win over KFJ. KFJ rebounded Saturday with a 3-0 win over the Fire Academy 02's. The Fire Academy 02's played extremely well and demonstrated their technical expertise on the ball individually and in their team possession game. This was a tremendous learning experience for our U13 Boys to play against such quality opponents.
- Brock Hickam - Head Coach/Assistant Director of Operations
Red Team went undefeated in 4 games, never trailed at any point, outscored opponents 25-7.
