Costa Rica Soccer Concludes 8th International Tournament
Girls ODP 2014 Tournament

Costa Rica Soccer Concludes 8th International Tournament
Girls ODP Region II and Region III played three international soccer matches against some of the best girl's soccer teams in Costa Rica this week.  The Costa Rican National U17 team started off strong with a 2-1 win over Region III in the first match.  This National team is preparing for the U17 Women's World Cup to be hosted here in Costa Rica in March 2014.  It will be the first time that Costa Rica has hosted a World Cup. Region III finished off the tournament with a tie against Arenal and a win over Saprissa in their third match.

Region II started strong with a win against Arenal and Saprissa in the first two games.  Yesterday's showdown between Region II and the Costa Rica U17 National team was an intense battle for the ball.  In the end, Region II came away with a 2-0 win.

Despite last-minute adjustments to the schedule due to late arrivals and the cancellation of Region I because of the U.S. ice storm, the tournament was again an exciting event of international competition at the top level.  Costa Rica Soccer Tours is honored to have hosted the event for the 8th year consecutively.  Congratulations to all of the participants!

It was a great tournament and an honor to coach the best players in our Region. It was the first time this group of players had ever competed together. We had players from the following States: Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa. They ranged between the 1996-1999 birthyears.

We trained a total of 4 times together before our first game. Played 3 games and were never scored on. We capped off the tournament by beating the U17 Women's National team of Costa Rica 2-0. This National team will be competing in the U17 Women's World Cup next month. The team also had an opportunity to do one community service project, zipline in the Rain forest, swim in the Pacific Ocean, see a professional men's soccer game in the National stadium and do a city tour of San Jose, Costa Rica. It was an excellent trip and will be very memorable for all the participants on the trip. - MIKE DICKEY
