Former US Women's National Team Coach & KFJ Technical Director Mike Dickey on the Success of his Former Player and Colleague, S
Aug 13 2014 - Kristen Wallace
Shannon MacMillan played for the United States Women's National team. She played an integral part in helping the USA win a Gold medal in the 1996 Olympics and the 1999 Women's World Cup.
In 2002 Shannon was the US Soccer Female athlete of the year.
Shannon also played professional soccer for the San Diego Spirit and college soccer at the University of Portland where she was coached by the legendary coach Clive Charles.
I first met Shannon while she was taking her USSF 'B' license course in California. I was her instructor during this course and spent 10 days helping her learn to coach. She did an outstanding job every single day and was extremely professional while working with the other coaches taking the course. I later added Shannon to our U14 Girl's US National team staff while I was the Head Coach. Not only was she an extremely talented coach but she was a great role model for the girls that were hoping to make the National team one day.
I am very honored to have been part of her coaching development and happy to see Shannon leading youth soccer in San Diego. Her passion and commitment to the game and the kids is outstanding. Her club team won the USYS National Championship this past summer. Congrats Shannon.
